Baldwin Delivers Game-Winner as Men's Soccer Beats Norwich for the First Time Since 2011

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — After a scoreless opening half, Roger Baldwin (New Haven, Conn.) put the Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team on the board in the 1-0 triumph over Norwich University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday.

Donaldo Yanez (West Haven, Conn.) delivered his first career assist.

BOX

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Early on, the Cadets held the early edge, as both sides traded opportunities throughout the first half, but ultimately it was a defensive struggle that was scoreless after the first 45.
  • To open the second half, the Falcons dictated the terms and would break the ice in the 52nd minute. A right-footed boot to the inside of the right post from 10 yards out by Baldwin put the Falcons on the board, thanks to Yanez setting up the shot.
  • Anthony Barreira (Trumbull, Conn.) and Lorenzo Lauria (New Haven, Conn.) looked to expand their lead but were turned away repeatedly by the Cadets' goalkeeper Nicholas Lanza.
  • In the 7th minute, Norwich had a golden opportunity with a free kick just outside the box, followed immediately by a corner, but neither opportunity connected leading to the score remaining at the final buzzer.
