HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A high-tempo first half featured multiple near misses by both teams, who had quality opportunities at the net early on but were just off target.
  • The Falcons eventually got on the board in the 42nd minute as McNeill took the ball down the right side of the field, broke towards the goal as JWU goalkeeper Sean Furtek came out of the net. Furtek dove to try to prevent McNeill from getting a shot off, but McNeill made a move to his left and kicked the ball into a wide open net to make it a 1-0 game.
  • Albertus outshot JWU 9-4 in the first half.
  • In the second half JWU had seven shots in the first 22 minutes, but just two on target as Albertus goalkeeper David Lucero (East Haven, Conn.) stopped both shots on net.
  • The Falcons nearly scored in the 62nd minute, but a shot from Lorenzo Lauria (East Hartford, Conn.) went off the far post keeping it a 1-0 game. However, seven minutes later, a yellow card was issued on JWU's Brian Miller for tugging on a jersey in the box, leading to a penalty kick for Coelho, which he converted to give Albertus the 2-0 lead.
  • JWU would get a penalty kick of its own in the 81st minute as Aidan Bagley converted to make it a 2-1 game.
  • Shortly after the goal, in the 82nd minute, Gabriel Paglia (Amity, Conn.) received a second yellow card of the game, forcing Albertus to play with 10 players. In the 86th minute, Carlos Andrade was the recipient of a deflected shot from Connr Elliott in front of the net and scored to make it a 2-2 game, eventually sending the game into OT.
  • After a scoreless first overtime, the No. 3 Wildcats had a corner kick in the 105th minute and Chad Parente was able to bend the shot into the short top corner of the net to give JWU the win.
