Fedele Scores First Goal As Women's Ice Hockey Ties Alvernia; Drops Shootout

READING, Pa. - The Albertus Magnus College women's ice hockey team tied with Alvernia on the back end of their weekend series, 1-1 in on Saturday. Alvernia took the shootout, 1-0.

Isabella Fedele (Buffalo, N.Y.) scored the lone goal and the first of her career for the Falcons in the second period as Alvernia also scored in the final minutes of the second.

Christmas Johnson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) stopped a career-high 54 shots, including 21 in the third period.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both Johnson and Alvernia goaltender Julia Beaven each shut the door in the first period as Johnson had 15 saves and Beaven, four.
  • In the second period right after a faceoff in the neutral zone, Moira O'Brien (Wilbraham, Mass.) raced down and found Fedele who was racing down the other end and fired into a virtually open net to make it a 1-0 game at the 5:10 mark.
  • Alvernia knotted the game up with a power play goal at the 18:36 mark as Sydney Bradley snapped a shot from just in front of the blue line that went over the shoulder of Johnson, making it 1-1.
  • In the third period, Johnson stopped all 21 shots she faced and all five in overtime. Beaven stopped 10 shots between the third period in overtime.
  • In the shootout, the Golden Wolves won, 1-0 as Sikke Ask scored the lone goal for Alvernia.
