Women's Lacrosse Bested by Rivier on Senior Day

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team suffered a hard-fought defeat to the Raiders of Rivier University by a final score of 17-9 on Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field on Senior Day.

Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) and Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) led the Falcons offensively, as the duo recorded a pair of hat tricks in the setback. Riccio recorded four goals scored to go along with two ground balls and seven draw controls. D'Agostino scored three goals, picked up three ground balls, and won four draw controls. 

In goal, Kelly Musante (Wallingford, Conn.) tallied her 11th game of the season with 10+ saves and eclipsed the 200 saves mark for her career in the contest.    

Prior to the game, the Falcons honored their seven-member senior class - Musante, Lillian Woods (New London, N.H.), Amanda McGeehan (Milford, Conn.), Annamarie DeLucia (North Haven, Conn.), Riccio, Mariah Mandulak (Shelton, Conn.), and Laila Webb (Montclair, N.J.).

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Raiders came out of the gate with the early lead, scoring in the opening 49 seconds of play.
  • However, the Albertus offense quickly countered to score at the 13:18 mark when Alexandra Barrett (Northford, Conn.) found Riccio to tie up the game, 1-1.
  • Rivier continued to push and took a 2-1 lead shortly after Riccio's goal, but D'Agostino pushed between the pipes to tie the game at two-all.
  • Sarah Lachance edged the Falcons with two goals to conclude the first quarter, 4-2.
  • Lachance opened up the second quarter scoring a goal to record a hat trick against the Falcons before D'Agostino tallied the Falcons' third goal at the 12:33 mark to lessen the deficit to two goals.
  • The Falcons' defense could not fend off the Raiders as Rivier went on a four-goal scoring streak to increase their advantage to six goals.
  • With five minutes remaining in the quarter, the Falcons notched a pair of goals as Barrett assisted both McGeehan and Riccio to bring the halftime scoreline to 9-5.
  • The Raiders kicked off the third period with a duo of goals to increase their lead 10-5 over the Falcons before Riccio tallied her third goal at the 7:09 mark. Her goal stood as the lone Falcon goal of the third quarter.
  • Rivier commanded the remainder of the third quarter, scoring three unanswered goals for a 14-6 lead at the break.
  • The fourth quarter consisted of back-and-forth scoring action from both teams.
  • First, Rivier capitalized on a free position shot at the 11:15 mark, then Falcons' Riccio scored on a free position shot for her fourth goal of the game.
  • Another free position shot was converted by the Raiders at the 8:15 mark, 16-7.
  • D'Agostino pushed to score her third goal at the 3:45 mark, but Raiders' Bailey Carroll retaliated at 2:24 with an unassisted goal.
  • The Falcons pushed to score the final goal of the game with 28 seconds remaining from Barrett, but there was not enough time for the Falcons to come back, 17-9.
