Lady Falcons Battle to 3-3 Tie With Norwich

NORTHFIELD, VT - Junior forward Karissa Doyon scored her second goal of the game in the final 10 minutes of regulation to help the Norwich University women's soccer team to forge a 3-3 tie against visiting Albertus Magnus College.  Doyon opened the scoring for the Cadets (4-5-1, 2-3-1 GNAC) when she received the ball deep in the left corner, beat a defender, and lofted a shot over the keeper and into the back of the net in the 35th minute.  Junior forward Sam Gigliotti (Wilton, CT) responded for the Lady Falcons in the 43rd minute to send the teams into halftime with a 1-1 tie.  Gigliotti again found the back of the net to open the second half when she scored in the 51st minute, chipping a shot over Norwich GK Nikki Hunsicker.  Norwich sophomore defender Stacey Flint knotted the game at 2-2 just one minute later when she headed in a Brittany Casey corner kick. The Lady Falcons surged back ahead when junior forward Ashley Velazquez (New Haven, CT) redirected a Gigliotti feed just inside the right post in the 60th minute.  Doyon equaled the score at 3-3 when she settled the ball off a Casey corner and placed it into the back of the net in the 84th minute.  Neither team was able to create any scoring opportunities in the overtimes leading to the 3-3 tie.  Norwich junior GK Alecia Wright stopped five shots while Hunsicker made one stop for the Cadets.  Junior keeper Christina Oddo (East Haven, CT) finished the game with five saves for the Falcons.  Albertus Magnus improves to 6-2-2, 3-2-2 GNAC while Norwich improves to 4-5-1, 2-3-1 GNAC.  The Lady Falcons host Johnson and Wales University on Wednesday at 3:30pm.
