Women's Soccer Wins Season Opener with 1-0 Victory over Coast Guard

Freshman Rebecca Slivinsky scored her first collegiate goal as the Albertus Magnus women's soccer team edged Coast Guard 1-0 in the Falcons' 2011 regular-season opener.

In her collegiate debut, the Plainville, Conn. native scored the game-winning goal at the 41-minute mark of tonight's contest. Sophomore Meghan Loughman (Trumbull, Conn.), who registered four assists in 2010, picked up her first of the season with a strong pass to Slivinsky, who found the back of the net.

The Falcons were led between the pipes by senior Sarah Boudreau (Pascoag, R.I.), who tallied four saves in her first shutout victory of the season. All four of her stops came in the second half as the Falcons held the Bears to just four shots on the night.

Newcomer and Central Connecticut State University transfer Meaghan Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) led Albertus with two shots in the contest as the Falcons out-shot the Bears 5-4.

Coast Guard's Mary Mills made four stops in her first loss of the year.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 3 in a 2:30 p.m. match at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y.
