Suffolk Upsets Falcons 1-0 in GNAC Semifinals

Suffolk's Leslie Hayden scored the game-winning goal in the 25th minute as the seventh-seeded Rams upset the second-seeded Albertus Magnus women's soccer team 1-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.

Hayden hustled down field and took Falcon goalkeeper Christina Dineson (Milford, Conn.) one-on-one and sent the ball over the sophomore's head to score the eventual game winner.

The Rams outshot the Falcons 6-5 in the opening 20 minutes before Albertus bounced back in the second half, posting a 15-2 clip in shots, including three on goal.

The Falcons held possession of the ball for most of the second half as they did not allow a Suffolk shot until there was less than 20 minutes left in the match.

Albertus had one of its best looks of the game with 5:39 left in the contest when sophomore Meghan Loughman's (Trumbull, Conn.) fifth shot of the game was stopped as Suffolk's Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.) made a leaping save to punch the ball over the net.

Dineson finished the contest with three saves, while allowing one goal, in 90 minutes of work. Brouillette stopped eight shots in her second-straight GNAC victory for Suffolk.

With the loss, the Falcons move to 12-7 on the year, while Suffolk improves to 11-7 and will advance to face top-ranked Lasell in the GNAC Tournament Championship game on Saturday.
