Women's Soccer Tops Norwich on the Road

The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team won a 3-0 decision versus Norwich on the road Saturday night at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium. 

Albertus Magnus (7-7-2, 5-4-0 GNAC) got goals fromjunior midfielder Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.), freshman forward Alexya Alves (Naugatuck, Conn.) and freshman midfielder Kerrigan Loughman (Trumbull, Conn.) en route to the victory. 

Polvan scored in the 28th minute on a scrum in the penalty box off a corner kick service by sophomore midfielder Victoria Lavery (West Haven, Conn.). Lavery served the ball into the box and then Polvan had an initial shot blocked and then she found her own rebound to bury it into the back of the net. 

Alves scored in the 53rd minute off an assist from junior midfielder Kaitlyn Fedumenti (Stratford, Conn.) to push the Albertus lead to 2-0. The marker was the second of Alves' young career and her first in conference action.

Kerrigan Loughman scored her second of the year in the 81st minute to cap the scoring off an assist from junior defender Alexis Mack (Meriden, Conn.). Loughman drove a long shot into the back of the net, over the head of NU goalkeeper Brooke Dewyea from 25 yards out. 

Albertus Magnus led the shots 28-6 and had 10 corner kicks to Norwich's one. Dewyea made 14 saves in the loss to fall to 2-4-0 on the year.

In net, senior Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) stopped all three shots she faced to earn the blank sheet and her sixth win of the autumn. It was a historic evning for Case, as the shutout was her third of the season and the 16th of her career. The 16 shutouts are tied for a program record.

The Falcons return to action on Wdnesday, October 21, with a home conference clash against Suffolk under the lights at Celentano Field.
