Four Women's Soccer Players Earn All-GNAC Honors

Winthrop, Mass. – A quartet of Albertus Magnus College women's soccer players earned All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) honors as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

For the Falcons, junior forward Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.), sophomore midfielder Victoria Lavery (West Haven, Conn.), junior back Alexis Mack (Meriden, Conn.) and third-year back Taylor Rotella (Milford, Conn.) were all-named Third Team All-GNAC.

The GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team was also announced on Monday afternoon and sophomore back Bianca Stefanacci (Milford, Conn.) represented Albertus Magnus on the squad.

Polvan earned all-conference accolades for third time in her career after landing on the first team last fall and the third team as a freshman. She led Albertus Magnus in goals (8), points (20) and shots on goal (41), while tying for the team-high in assists (4) and game-winning goals (2). She netted five of her markers in conference play, highlighted by a two-goal performance in a come-from-behind win versus Saint Joseph's (Me.). Danielle is majoring in criminal justice and is the daughter of Lisa Polvan.

In her first season of action with the team, Lavery received league-wide recognition thanks to scoring five goals and adding two assists in 19 contests. In GNAC play, she netted three tallies, including the game-winner in a shutout victory against Anna Maria. Victoria also stars on the basketball court for the Falcons and is the daughter of Holly and Chris Lavery.

Mack landed on the all-conference team for the third time in her stellar career after being named to the first team last autumn and the second team as a freshman. She started all 20 games for Albertus while anchoring the back line. On the year, she recorded two assists with one of those coming in a 3-0 victory on the road against GNAC foe Norwich. Alexis is majoring in communications and is the daughter of Carrie Bafuma.

Rotella emerged as a force in the middle of the Falcons defense in 2015, earning All-GNAC honors for the first time in her career. The 5-3 back appeared in all 20 games for Albertus Magnus, including 19 starts. She scored a trio goals this season, highlighted by netting a marker in a shutout win versus Suffolk at home in late October. Rotella and Mack were part of a Falcon defense that surrendered just over one goal per game and recorded eight blank sheets this year. Taylor is majoring in sports communications and is the daughter of Eileen and Domenic Rotella.

Stefanacci scored a goal and added an assist in 13 games of action this year for the Falcons. The second-year defender picked up her helper in a 5-0 victory against Anna Maria in mid-September and found the back of the net in the regular-season finale versus CCNY.

The women's soccer finished the year with a 9-8-3 overall record after falling in penalty kicks at Emmanuel in the GNAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
