WESTON, Mass. – An 83rd-minute score and stellar goaltending lifted the Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team to a 1-0 road victory over Regis (Mass.) College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon.

Junior midfielder Amanda McGeehan (Milford, Conn.) netted the game-winner on an assist from Katherine Raposo (Warwick, R.I.). On the other end of the field, Michelle Mecca (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) earned her second career shutout behind a season-best 13 saves between the pipes for the Falcons.

BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first half, the Falcons and Pride battled to a 0-0 deadlock behind solid defense from both squads. Regis held the offensive advantage, tallying 10 shots, five on goal in the opening 45 minutes. However, Albertus was not affected, as Mecca stood firm with five saves. The Falcons finished the first half with two shots.

The defensive battle continued into the second half, as both teams remained scoreless through 80 minutes. The Pride was primed to take the first lead of the game when Aria Ulmer sent a curling shot towards the left-hand corner of the goal that Mecca dove to stop and send out for a corner. On the subsequent possession, the home team earned a penalty shot. Mecca stepped up huge again, stopping Hailey Lovell's right-foot attempt to keep the game tied with 10 minutes left in regulation.

Albertus' offense repaid the defense's efforts in the 83rd minute on the game-winning strike from McGeehan. Following a deep pass into the offensive zone, Raposo brought the ball up the right side of the field before finding McGeehan at the top of the box, where she lifted a shot over the keeper's head and under the crossbar for the score.

AMC held tough for the final seven minutes, making one save on four more Regis attempts to seal the 1-0 league win.
