Women's Soccer Edged by Rutgers-Newark, 1-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team lost a tightly-contested match to the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark University on Wednesday night, falling to in non-conference play by a final score of 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Scarlet Raiders controlled the action early, firing off a shot in the first 10 minutes that Stevens saved. Then, two minutes later, Leila Ettayebi fired a pass from Ava Dul that justice snuck past Stevens' fingertips for the game's decisive score.
• The Falcons retaliated quickly, firing off three shots in succession, but Scarlet Raiders keeper Katie McLaughlin remained firm in the net, denying the Falcons the score.
• The teams traded shots for the remainder of the half, with neither able to gain the upper hand, and they transitioned into the second half, with the Falcons trailing 1-0.
• Albertus came out aggressive in the second half, ripping off a pair of shots and two corner kicks, but couldn't tie the match.
• In the 67th minute, Sophia Vescera (Prospect, Conn.) fired off a shot into the corner of the net that McLaughlin snared to keep the game at 1-0.
• The Falcons could not respond in the final 20 minutes of regulation, and the match ended in a 1-0 Rutgers-Newark victory.
