Women's Soccer Rallies From Two-Goal Deficit To Tie Nichols In Thrilling Season Opener

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Julianne Yuris (Middletown, Conn.) scored the second of two second-half goals for the Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team in the 86th minute as the Falcons rallied back from a two-goal deficit to tie Nichols, 2-2 in the team's season opener on Friday evening at Celentano Field.

Julia Tsakonas (West Haven, Conn.) scored her first goal to begin the second-half rally. Erina Ismaili (Middlebury, Conn.) notched two assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A scoreless half-hour plus quickly turned into a 2-0 lead for the Bison as Falyn Hunt put them on the board with a goal as she battled with her defender and tapped a shot that rolled into the net for the one goal lead in the 34th minute.
  • Just 41 seconds later, Sophia Rodriguez took a cross from Summer Bruno, making it a 2-0 game which Nichols would take into the half.
  • At the 54-minute mark of the second half, the Falcons netted their first goal of the season as a free kick from Ismaili foundits way into the box and Sophia Vescera (Prospect, Conn.) found Tsakonas who put the ball in the back of the net to cut the Albertus deficit in half.
  • With under five minutes remaining, Ismaili took a corner kick into the far end of the box. Addie Lamond (Bethlehem, Conn.) centered the pass back to Yuris whose shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and over the goaline to tie the game, 2-2 in the 86th minute.
  • In one final push by the Bison in the 88th minute, Albertus goalkeeper Amy Stevens (Lincoln, R.I.) ran out of the net to stop a shot by Emily Feisthamel as the final line of defense to preserve the tie.
