New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team beat conference rival Simmons 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field.

The Falcons (2-3-1, 1-0-1 GNAC) earned their first win in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play and handed Simmons their first loss in conference play on the young season.

The Falcons broke the tie in the twelfth minute when senior midfielder Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) soared past the defenders and found the back of the net inside the box to give the Falcons the early 1-0 lead.

Polvan would continue to lead the charge sending a cross in the thirty-third minute to the foot of junior forward Alexya Alves (Naugatuck, Conn.) who buried the pass into the back of the net to give Albertus Magnus the 2-0 lead.

In the second half both teams battled with Simmons holding the slight edge in shots 4-3 over the hosts.  Sophomore goalie Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) had a strong showing in net for the Falcons saving all eight shots she faced and securing the shutout for the hosts.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Tuesday, September 20th when they travel to non-conference Mount Holyoke (Mass.) at 7:00 pm.
