Women's Soccer Weekly Preview: Johnson & Wales

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team went a perfect 2-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play last week, racing past Mount Ida, 6-1, before blanking Rivier at home, 2-0, over the weekend. Albertus Magnus enters the seventh week of the regular season with a 6-6-1 overall record and a 4-2-1 mark in conference contests. In the triumph over the Mustangs, senior Danielle Polvan scored a pair of goals and both junior Alexya Alves and sophomore Kerrigan Loughman had two assists apiece. Against the Raiders, Alves scored the game-winning goal and sophomore goalkeeper Lexie Fenn made two saves for her third shutout in conference action this fall.

Earlier This Week: The Falcons erupted for four second-half goals to take down in-state rival St. Joseph (Conn.), 4-2, on Columbus Day. Senior Taylor Rotella scored twice, including the game-winning strike to lead Albertus Magnus past the Bluejays and avenge an overtime setback to USJ last October in the Elm City.

This Weekend: Albertus Magnus travels to the Ocean State to square off with Johnson & Wales in a GNAC showdown on Saturday. The Wildcats currently sit in second-place in the conference standings with a 6-0-2 mark, while the Falcons are in fourth with a 5-2-1 record in league contests. Albertus Magnus enters the tilt riding a three-game GNAC winning streak.

Last Autumn Against the Wildcats: Johnson & Wales scored a 3-1 victory at Albertus Magnus last October under the lights at Celentano Field. The Wildcats struck early, netting a goal ten minutes into play and their backline kept the hosts off the board until late in regulation.

NOTES:
- The program earned its 100th career victory earlier this season against Nichols.  Head Coach Nick Wajnowski currently has 99 career wins with the Falcons. He is the winningest coach in program history and has also racked up 64 GNAC victories.
- In their seven wins this fall, the Falcons outscored the opposition, 29-4. In their six losses, the team has not scored.
- Earlier this fall, senior midfielder Danielle Polvan netted four goals in a non-conference win at home versus Mitchell. Polvan had an impressive first half as she netted three goals. Her fourth tally landed her atop the program's all-time goals list with 32 for her career. The game-winning strike against the Mariners was her second of the year.
- Fenn has been solid in conference play this season, posting a trio of shutouts. For the year, she has a .752 save percentage, a 1.43 goals-against average, 52 saves and three clean sheets (all in conference play).
