New Haven, Conn. – Albertus Magnus College women's soccer Head Coach Nick Wajnowski picked up his 100th career victory on Wednesday afternoon as the Falcons defeated visiting Suffolk, 7-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Celentano Field.

Albertus Magnus (8-7-1, 6-3-1 GNAC) bounced back from a setback over the weekend and scored its second straight home league win, while the Rams (9-8, 5-5 GNAC) saw their five-game winning streak come to an end.

Albertus Magnus threatened early with two scoring chances in the first five minutes, but the hosts were unable to convert. Early into the contest, junior forward Alexya Alves (Naugatick, Conn.) fired a shot wide off a corner taken by classmate Angelina Piccirillo (Naugatuck, Conn.). Four minutes into the contest, senior midfielder Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) blasted a shot that sailed just over the crossbar from 24-yards out.

Piccirillo opened the scoring just under eight and a half minutes into play with her third marker of the season to give Albertus Magnus the early edge. After Alves created offensive pressure and earned the Falcons a corner, the left-footed Piccirillo bent her kick off the hands of Suffolk goalkeeper Kirsten Weiker and into the net. It was her second tally on a corner kick in 2016.

The hosts took a two-goal lead three minutes later courtesy of a strike from junior Amanda Montano (North Haven, Conn.). Montano's fourth of the season was assisted by Alves and senior midfielder Liz Nagy (Meriden, Conn.). Nagy started the play with a through ball to send Alves in uncontested. Alves then played the ball across the field on the ground to Montano, who finished into an open net.

Albertus Magnus built its to three midway through the first stanza as Alves netted her fourth marker of the autumn. Senior midfielder Bridget Judd (Branford, Conn.) sent a beautiful cross to a wide open Alves inside the box. Alves then collected the pass and took a shot from the penalty area that soared past Weiker's left hand.

The Falcons added an insurance goal in the 35th minute thanks to a blast from Polvan from 30-yards out. Polvan's team-leading eighth strike of the season came on a nice individual effort, as the program's all-time leader in goals beat the Ram defender marking her and fired a shot into the upper-90 over a leaping Weiker.

Albertus Magnus added to its lead late in the opening half as senior Taylor Rotella (Milford, Conn.) scored on a header off a corner for the second time in the last three games. Rotella's fourth of the fall was assisted by sophomore Kerrigan Loughman (Trumbull, Conn.) on a service into the box.

Following Rotella's marker, the Falcons netted their sixth goal of the game as Polvan raced past the Suffolk backline and beat Weiker with a chip for her ninth tally of the year. Polvan's second of the contest gave the hosts a commanding, 6-0, advantage heading into the half. It marked the third multi-goal game of the spring for Polvan.

In the second half, Piccirillo scored her second of the day to give the Falcons a 7-0 edge. She collected a failed clear attempt by a Ram defender and fired shot from 30-yards out into the upper-90. Piccirillo's fourth of the fall capped the scoring in the contest.

In net, Albertus Magnus sophomore goalkeeper Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) made four saves during the first half to earn her seventh victory of the season. In relief of Fenn, senior Ryan Clark (Milford, Conn.) stopped the only shot she faced . On the opposite end, Weiker turned aside four shots during the first half in a losing effort. During the second half, freshman Jordan Pettograsso made two saves for the guests. The clean sheet was the sixth of the fall for Albertus Magnus.

In their seven wins this fall, the Falcons outscored the opposition, 36-4. In their seven losses, the team has not scored.

In his 10th season at the helm, Wajnowski is 100-69-20 overall and 65-38-12 in GNAC games. He is the winningest coach in program history.

Albertus Magnus closes out the 2016 regular season with a home conference showdown against Norwich that is slated to begin at 6:15 pm under the lights at Celentano Field as part of the College's 20th Annual Fall Fest. Last autumn, the Falcons netted a 3-0 victory on the road versus the Cadets. Prior to Saturday evening's game, Albertus Magnus will honor the seven members of the senior class for their contributions to the program.
