Women's Soccer Weekly Preview: Suffolk & Norwich

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team 1-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play last week, defeating in-state rival Saint Joseph (Conn.), 4-2, before falling on the road to Johnson & Wales, 3-0, over the weekend. Albertus Magnus enters the eighth week of the season with a 7-7-1 overall record and a 5-3-1 mark in league action. In the road win against the Bluejays, senior defender Taylor Rotella netted two goals and sophomore Kerrigan Loughman chipped in a goal and an assist. On the week, sophomore goalkeeper Lexie Fenn made 10 saves.

This Week: Albertus Magnus closes out the 2016 regular season with a pair of home conference clashes against Suffolk and Norwich. The Rams come to the Elm City first in midweek action and the Falcons will square off with the Cadets on Saturday under the lights as part of the College's 20th Annual Fall Fest. Prior to the showdown with Norwich, the team will honor the six members of the senior class for their contributions to the program.

Last Autumn Against the Rams: Albertus Magnus raced past Suffolk, 3-0, last fall in the Elm City. The Falcons struck early in the first half with the eventual game-winner and added a pair of insurance goals in the second half, one of came off the leg of Rotella. Albertus Magnus held a commanding 18-7 edge in shots and took nine corners compared to three for the Rams.

Last Year Versus the Cadets: Albertus Magnus netted a 3-0 victory on the road against Norwich last October. In the victory, Danielle Polvan, Alexya Alves and Loughman scored for the Falcons. AMC had a 28-6 advantage in shots and took 10 corners compared to just one for the Cadets.

NOTES:
- The program earned its 100th career victory earlier this season against Nichols.  Head Coach Nick Wajnowski currently has 99 career wins with the Falcons. He is the winningest coach in program history and has also racked up 64 GNAC victories. 
- In their seven wins this fall, the Falcons outscored the opposition, 29-4. In their seven losses, the team has not scored.
- Earlier this fall, senior midfielder Danielle Polvan netted four goals in a non-conference win at home versus Mitchell. Polvan had an impressive first half as she netted three goals. Her fourth tally landed her atop the program's all-time goals list with 32 for her career. The game-winning strike against the Mariners was her second of the year.
- Fenn has been solid in conference play this season, posting a trio of shutouts. For the year, she has a .740 save percentage, a 1.55 goals-against average, 57 saves and three clean sheets (all in conference play).
