New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team blanked visiting Norwich, 6-0, on Saturday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) under the lights at Celentano Field.

The Falcons (9-7-1, 7-3-1 GNAC) won their third straight home conference game, while the Cadets (2-11-2, 1-9-1 GNAC) see their season come to an end with the loss.

With the win, Albertus Magnus secured a home game and the No. 3 seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament. The Falcons will host sixth-seeded Emmanuel on Sunday, October 30, at 1:00 pm. Albertus Magnus is looking to avenge a 2-0 setback to the Saints at home earlier this fall.

For the second straight GNAC game, Albertus Magnus junior midfielder Angelina Piccirillo (Naugatuck, Conn.) opened the scoring. Just over nine minutes into the game, the left-footed Piccirillo bent a high-arching corner kick off the hands of Norwich senior goalkeeper Holly Lutz and into the net to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage. The marker was Piccirillo's fifth of the season and proved to be the game-winner.

The Falcons stretched their lead to two in the 34th minute courtesy of a strike from junior midfielder Amanda Montano (North Haven, Conn.). Albertus Magnus made the most of another corner, as Piccirillo served the ball to the front post and Montano headed past Lutz for her fifth of the autumn. The assist was the first of the season for Piccirillo as she helped AMC take a 2-0 lead.

Albertus Magnus stretched its lead to three early in the second half as Piccirillo broke through again. The third-year midfielder collected a pass from senior Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) outside the box, beat the Cadet defender marking her and fired a shot past a diving Lutz for her sixth marker of 2016. The contest capped an impressive week for Piccirillo as she registered four goals and an assist.

The hosts took a four-goal edge in the 56th minute thanks to junior Bianca Stefanacci's (Milford, Conn.) first goal of the season. Polvan flicked a ball from at the left post back to Stefanacci at the penalty area who buried her fourth career tally.

Albertus Magnus added an insurance goal late in regulation as junior Alexya Aves (Naugatuck, Conn.) converted a cross from senior Alexis Mack (Meriden, Conn.) into an open net. The marker was the fifth of the season for Alves and the helper was Mack's first of the year. The home team capped the scoring in the final minute of play as senior Taylor Rotella (Milford, Conn.) bent a shot into the goal from 25-yards out for her fifth marker.

In net, senior Ryan Clark (Milford, Conn.) played 70 minutes for the hosts and turned aside both shots she faced to earn her second win of the season. In relief of Clark, AMC sophomore Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.)stopped the only shot she faced . The clean sheet was the seventh of the season for Albertus Magnus. On the opposite end, Lutz made 12 saves in a losing effort. Over the final five minutes, junior Leandra Flores-Nieves turned aside one shot for the Cadets.

In their nine wins this fall, the Falcons outscored the opposition, 42-4. In their seven losses, the team has not scored.

Prior to the contest, Albertus Magnus honored the six members of the senior class for their contributions to the program over the last four seasons.
