Brookline, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball took down host Newbury College, 3-0, on Thursday evening at Pappas Gymnasium in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Albertus Magnus took control in the first set, opening the match with the early 10-7 edge before Newbury recorded its first lead of the night, 11-10, following a short spurt. The Falcons would fight back for the lead, 16-12, making the Nighthawks to use their first timeout of the frame. Albertus Magnus slowly began pulling away with the lead until a kill from Marlen Reynoso brought the hosts to within two, 22-20, forcing Coach Rosario to use a timeout. Freshman Kimberly Keller (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Genesis Cora Luquis (Meriden, Conn.) scored the final three points need to secure the win for the Falcons.
It was a quick second set as Albertus Magnus defeated Newbury, 25-14, to take the 2-0 lead heading into the third.
Up by one, 6-5, Albertus Magnus came together as a team and rallied together a 7-0 run to push its lead to eight, 13-5. Following a timeout by the hosts, the Falcons

- Cora Luquis led the offensive attack for Albertus Magnus with 12 kills while sophomore Ashley David (West Islip, N.Y.) added 11 kills, respectively.
- Senior Marielis Muriel (New Haven, Conn.) recorded her third double-double of the season as the setter assisted 28 kills and picked up 10 digs.
- Stephanie Rheaume led the Nighthawks with a team-high six kills.
- Albertus Magnus finished the match with a team hitting percentage of .192 after registering 36 kills.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 9 as the Falcons face the College of New Rochelle and Rutger-Newark as part of a non-conference tri-match. Newbury also has a tri-match on Saturday against Fitchburg State and Pine Manor.
