New Haven, Conn. – Two standout student-athletes, a conference-champion coach and a legendary supporter and senior administrator are set to be inducted into the Albertus Magnus College Athletics Hall of Fame this fall.
The four inductees this year are men's basketball player and three-sport star Patrick Good '93, men's soccer player Victor Crespo '00, softball coach Mark Giordano and former Albertus Magnus College Vice President for Finance and Treasurer Jeanne Mann.
"The addition of these most worthy inductees highlights the commitment of the College and its administration, the tireless efforts of its current and former student-athletes and the strong dedication of our coaches," Albertus Magnus College Director of Athletics Jim Abromaitis said.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2016 will be honored at the DeDominicis Dining Hall in the Hubert Campus Center in an induction ceremony on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 6:00 pm. The two-hour event concludes with the unveiling of the plaques at Hall of Fame in the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.
The inductees have been selected by a vote of the selection committee which featured a student leader on campus, staff member, faculty member, member of the Board of Trustees and member of the Hall of Fame.
Patrick Good played basketball, baseball and men's tennis during his time at Albertus Magnus. On the court, he was the first 1,000-point scorer in program history and was the all-time leader in points after graduating. He currently ranks fifth all-time with 1,437 career points. Good was named the team MVP three times, led the team in scoring three times and he ranked in the top-ten in the nation in scoring during his junior campaign. His leadership skills were evident in how he served as both the team captain for the baseball and basketball squads.
Victor Crespo was a four-year starter for the men's soccer team. He played a pivotal role on the team that captured the first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship in school history in 1996. On the field, he was a three-time All-GNAC performer and was named First Team all-conference as a senior. Crespo currently ranks fourth all-time in program history with 84 points thanks to scoring 35 goals and adding 14 assists.
Mark Giordano was the longest tenure coach in the history of the softball program, guiding the Falcons for 10 seasons from the mid-90s to the early 2000s. In his 10 years at the helm, he led the team to 144 wins, 84 GNAC wins and the 1997 GNAC Championship. He is the winningest coach in program history and he also has captured the most GNAC wins in the school's history. Giordano's teams appeared in eight GNAC Tournaments and were the 1998 GNAC Regular Season Champions.
Jeanne Mann worked closely with the athletic department during her 38 years at the College, most recently serving as Vice President for Finance and Treasurer. As the College's Athletic Direct Report (ADR) she was instrumental in numerous on-campus projects that led to the enhancement of the Albertus Magnus student-athlete experience. Mann helped establish the men's and women's lacrosse teams and prior to her retirement on June 30, 2016, she set the way for a women's swimming team and the possibility of a field hockey team starting in the near future. In regards to facilities, she played a pivotal role in having the turf field installed and then later the installation of the lights. In addition, the opportunity to have Rochford Field as Albertus' home baseball facility was made possible through Mann's efforts. The Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center has seen several improvements under her tenure. These include a new gym floor, spearheading the construction of the new state of the art training room, the creation of a student-athlete only weight room and general renovations/improvements to the appearance of the building.
The Albertus Magnus College Athletics Hall of Fame, which held its first induction ceremony in 2008, has 20 members, including 11 student-athletes, five head coaches, two teams and a pair of special honorees.
