New Haven, Conn. – Albertus Magnus College will induct five former student-athletes into its Class of 2018 Athletics Hall of Fame on Sunday, September 16 as part of Homecoming Weekend. The newest members of the Hall of Fame include Ryan Antonino (baseball), Raymond Askew (men's basketball), Jason Crockett (men's basketball), Samantha Farley (women's soccer) and Stephen Zapata (men's soccer).
The 2018 Athletics Hall of Fame kicks off with a Homecoming Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Catherine of Siena Chapel, Walsh Hall, followed by a Homecoming Brunch and the 2018 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction at 11:30 a.m. in DeDominicis Dining Hall, Hubert Campus Center. The Albertus Magnus College Athletics Hall of Fame, which held its first induction ceremony in 2008, has 20 members, including 11 student-athletes, five head coaches, two teams and a pair of special honorees.
Following are biographies on the 2018 Albertus Magnus Athletics Hall of Fame members:
Ryan Antonino (Baseball, 1998-2001)
Ryan Antonino graduated from Albertus Magnus College in 2003 and currently ranks second all-time in hits (199), at-bats (527), doubles (46) and runs (136). As a freshman, he was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Year and earned a spot on the GNAC All-Tournament Team after finishing the campaign 15th in the nation with a program-best .481 batting average.
The following year, Antonino continued to dominate at the plate as he was named GNAC Player of the Year after registering 57 hits, nine home runs and 47 RBI over 147 at-bats. He also was a First-Team All-Conference selection and was named to the GNAC All-Tournament for the third straight year.
Antonino finished his career third in GNAC history in doubles and earned GNAC All-Conference honors all four years, including two First-Team nods in 1999 and 2000. He also ranked third all-time in home runs (16) and RBI (129) while finishing with a .377 batting average.
Ray Askew (Men's Basketball, 2008-2012)
Named the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's basketball Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, Ray Askew ended his career leading the program all-time with 1,192 rebounds and 2,316 points.
In 2012, he became the second-player to record over 1,000 rebounds in the conference, the league's all-time rebounding leader and was the second men's basketball player in school history to score over 2,000 points. As a senior, Askew became the first-ever Albertus Magnus men's basketball player to earn the All-America status as he led the Falcons to a GNAC title and it's second-ever NCAA Tournament victory.
Throughout his tenure, he was nationally ranked from 2009-2012 in rebounds per game, double-doubles and points per game while also earning All-Conference honors, including three First Team selections. A 2010 All-New England player, Askew finished his career shooting 51.1-percent from the floor, while he shot 68-percent from the free-throw line, a 728-of-1,071 showing. His attempts on the charity stripe also marked a GNAC record.
Jason Crockett (Men's Basketball, 1994-1998)
A four-year member of the men's basketball team, Jason Crockett who, prior to the 2011-12 season, was the only player in the history of the program to score over 1,000 points and record over 1,000 rebounds. He currently ranks eighth all-time in points with 1,323 and third all-time with 1,036 rebounds.
Crockett was a part of the Falcons' 1995-96 squad that won the first-ever GNAC Men's Basketball Championship title before being named GNAC Player of the Year in 1996-1997 after averaging 17.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game.
Crockett served as a basketball team captain during his junior and senior seasons, while he was named to the GNAC All-Conference First Team as both a junior and senior. He also played baseball and tennis for the College and batted over .300 as a Falcons' outfielder.
Samantha Farley (Women's Soccer, 2009-12)
Samantha Farley graduated from Albertus Magnus College in 2012 as the program's first All-New England selection after she led the Falcons' backline in 2012 with 10 shutouts. On the field, she was a two-time All-GNAC performer, a three-time All-GNAC Academic honoree and was named Albertus Magnus Athletics Female Athlete of the Year in 2011.
Over her four-year tenure, she played in 63 games in the backfield for the Falcons and totaled five points behind two goals and an assist. Farley also helped lead the Falcons to a program-best 42 wins over four seasons.
Stephen Zapata (Men's Soccer, 2009-12)
Stephen Zapata graduated in 2012 from Albertus Magnus College as the all-time leader in assists (52) both in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) as well as the Albertus Magnus men's soccer program.
As a junior, Zapata became the second men's soccer player to earn All-New England honors after finishing first in the nation with a career-best 23 assists and 1.15 assists per game. As a senior, he helped lead the Falcons' to win the GNAC Title for the second time in program history as well as earning the program's first NCAA Tournament bid. Following the campaign, Zapata received year-end honors such as NEISL All-Star, ECAC Division 3 New England All-Star, All-New England Second Team and All-American Second Team.
In addition, the three-time All-Conference honoree capped a stellar four-year campaign ranking second all-time in points with 114 and fifth all-time in goals with 31.
