Public is Welcome to Attend

New Haven, Conn. - October 22, 2019 -- The campus is buzzing in the midst of a stellar soccer season for Albertus Magnus College! Both the men's and women's teams have winning records, and the college recently announced that it will host this year's Unified Sports Soccer Tournament in conjunction with CIAC/Special Olympics Unified Sports-partnering athletes with and without disabilities on athletic teams for training and competition. There will be a total of nine teams in the tournament this year. Members of the Albertus Magnus men's and women's soccer teams will serve as referees and coaches for the games.

What: Unified Sports Soccer Tournament

When: Friday, October 25th, from 10 am to 12 pm

Where: Celentano Field, 700 Prospect St, New Haven, CT

In September of 2018, Albertus Magnus entered into a partnership with the Amity Regional School District that included a Unified Sports program. In an effort to continue that collaboration at the college level, their teacher, Tricia Fitzgerald, reached out to Albertus Magnus and a team was formed in February. It is coached by Tricia Fitzgerald and Albertus men's soccer graduate assistant coach Alexis Garcia-Romero.

Albertus Magnus College and Southern Connecticut State University have the first Unified Sports programs in the state of Connecticut.

If participants would like more information, please contact Dr. Christine Atkins at catkins@albertus.edu, Mr. Garcia-Romero at agarcia1@albertus.edu, or Ms. Fitzgerald at patricia.fitzgerald@amityregion5.org.

This giving of ourselves in the communities that we serve is one of the four pillars of Dominican Tradition: study, prayer and contemplation, community, and service.
