Colavolpe Steps Down as Albertus' Head Men's Soccer Coach

New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College Department of Athletics has announced that Brett Colavolpe, head men's soccer coach, has resigned from his position to continue his 13-year tenure as a full-time mathematics teacher at Hillhouse High School. Albertus will conduct a national search to replace Colavolpe as the head men's soccer coach.

Colavolpe took over as the head men's soccer coach at Albertus in the fall of 2017 after he served as an assistant coach for 10 years. In his three seasons, he compiled a record of 22-25-7 and guided the Falcons to three straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament appearances.

In his first year at the helm, the Falcons finished with an overall record of 7-10-1 and made its 22nd appearance in the GNAC Tournament as the seventh seed, following a 4-5-1 league mark. Along the way, Colavolpe produced the GNAC Rookie of the Year in Salah Oumorou (West Haven, Conn.), two all-conference players and five academic all-conference honorees.

In 2018, Colavolpe helped guide his Falcons back to the GNAC Tournament behind a 5-2-4 league record, only to drop a heartbreaker to Colby-Sawyer College in the quarterfinals. He helped the program post a 6-6-5 overall record, while a pair of performers – Abdoul Aremu (West Haven, Conn.) and Joe Russo (North Haven, Conn.) - were honored as GNAC All-Conference players.

This past fall, Colavolpe recruited the biggest freshman class in program history and helped lead the young team back to the GNAC Tournament as the fifth seed. The Falcons finished the campaign with an overall record of 9-9-1 behind an impressive six shutout victories and a conference record of 6-4-1. Colavolpe guided both Oumorou and Carlos Lopez (Bridgeport, Conn.) to GNAC All-Conference accolades, with Oumorou becoming Albertus' second GNAC Offenive Player of the Year honoree. Behind an impressive junior season, Oumorou also was named to the All-New England Region Third Team.

Colavolpe, a 2007 graduate of Albertus, served as an assistant coach from 2007 to 2017, and was on the touchline as an assistant to former head coach Jim Bernardo when the Falcons captured the 2012 GNAC Championship and made the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Colavolpe was also a four-year starter for the Falcons from 2003-06. He was named to the GNAC All-Conference Second Team as a senior in 2006, earned a spot on the GNAC All-Tournament Team in 2005 and was part of the 2003 GNAC finals team in 2003. Colavolpe also served as a team captain for the Falcons as both a junior and a senior.

Albertus Magnus College thanks Colavolpe for his dedication to the men's soccer program and wish him continued success in his future endeavors.
