New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College Athletics Department, in conjunction with Student Services and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), hosted their own 5K event on Sunday, April 17, in support of Take Back the Night. The event attracted a significant group of runners, with athletes from women's swimming & diving, men's ice hockey, women's soccer, and women's lacrosse showing up in support. Staff members from around the campus also showed up in support of the initiative, walking or running the 5K.
Head women's swimming and diving coach Lauren Pallone shared her appreciation for all of the hard work and support that went into the successful execution of the event. "It was a beautiful day for a charity 5K in support of our own Take Back the Night event that we will be holding on Wednesday, April 21st, in a virtual format," said Coach Pallone. "We appreciate all of the support and donations we received from the Albertus Magnus College community, which as of today, is $500, to go along with a large number of donations that will be split between the Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence and the Women and Families Center, which are both located in New Haven, Connecticut. We are still collecting items and donations through Thursday, April 29th. Items can be dropped off at the Athletics Center Front Desk, the Aquinas Café, and outside the Student Services Offices."
The school is hosting a Denim Day, tentatively scheduled for April 29th, in order to help raise awareness for the event. Faculty and staff can wear jeans to work that day, as long as they do not have any holes. Monetary donations or items can be brought to HR or can be dropped off in the donation boxes around campus or at the front desk in the athletic center.
