Murray-Leach, Warner Secure Falcon Spotlight Players of the Week Accolades

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College athletic department named Jakara Murray-Leach (Norwalk, Conn.) of the women's basketball team and Davon Warner (New Haven, Conn.) of the men's basketball team as the Falcon Spotlight Players of the Week.

Murray-Leach averaged 21.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game to help guide the Falcons to a busy 4-0 record in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play last week. On Monday, she began her week with a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double in a 73-58 win over the University of Saint Joseph (CT). She followed that up with 20 points, three boards, and two steals in Wednesday's 79-68 triumph versus Regis (Mass.) College. The highlight of the rookie's week came on Saturday, when she lit up Colby-Sawyer College for 27 points (10-for-20 FG) and seven rebounds in a commanding 63-35 win. Murray-Leach capped off her week with 22 points at home on Sunday in AMC's 78-45 victory over Johnson & Wales (RI) University.

The women's basketball team closes out the regular season on Tuesday, Feb. 15, with a road GNAC tilt against the Bulldogs of Dean College. The opening tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.

Warner had one of his best weeks of the season, averaging 22.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.4 steals while shooting an impressive 51.9% (41-for-79) from the floor in a 4-1 week for the Falcons. The senior guard kicked off the week by tallying 19 points, three rebounds, and three steals in a home setback to USJ on Monday before adding 23 points, a rebound, and four steals in an 83-79 road win over JWU on Tuesday. He followed up with a season-high 24 points, five rebounds, and an assist in the 82-73 win over Regis (Mass.) on Thursday. On Saturday, he recorded his second 23-point performance in the Falcons' 93-67 win over Colby-Sawyer. Warner closed out the week by netting his fourth straight 20-plus-point game as he tallied 21 points, two rebounds, and two steals in a 78-60 home win over JWU.

The men's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 15, with a road GNAC clash against Dean College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
