NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After posting outstanding individual efforts last week, Rachael Pellegrini (Clinton, Conn.) of the women's volleyball team and Shamar Wilson (Montego Bay, Jamaica) of the men's golf team were tabbed the Albertus Magnus College Falcon Spotlight Players of the Week.
Pellegrini did a little bit of everything for the Falcons this past week, as she paced the team with 48 assists (3.69/set) and was tied for second with 35 digs (2.69/set) and three aces. The sophomore setter shined brightest in the two middle matches of AMC's week, as she tallied 35 assists and 24 digs against Salem State University and Dean College. Against the Vikings, Pellegrini recorded 20 assists and a career-high 20 digs for a double-double in a five-set classic on Thursday. She then tallied 15 more assists and four digs to lead Albertus' to a three-set win over the Bulldogs to open GNAC play on Saturday.
The women's volleyball team takes a short break from league play to challenge Curry College on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. in Milton, Mass.
Wilson continued the stellar start to his freshman campaign this past week, finishing third at the Rose City invitational, hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University, with a two-day score of 152 (+10). The Montego Bay, Jamaica, native carded a 75 (+4) on day one and a 77 (+6) on day two to finish third in the 34-person field. As a program, the Falcons took third in the seven-team field with a combined score of 649, its third top-three finish to start the season.
The men's golf program returns to the course on Wednesday, Sept. 28, to participate in the one-day Brett Williamson Invitational, hosted by Westfield State. AMC will be back in action on Thursday to challenge Mitchell College and Eastern Nazarene College at home at the New Haven Country Club.
