NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College Athletic Department recognized Peyton Davis (North Haven, Conn.) of the softball team and Shawn Smith (Shelton, Conn.) of the baseball team as the Falcon Spotlight Players of the Week.
Davis batted .417 (5-of-12) with one double, two runs scored, and four RBI in a 2-2 week for the Falcons. The North Haven, Conn. native recorded a hit in all four games, including a two-hit performance in the Falcons' 16-0 home win over Dean. She also tallied a solo RBI in the 9-1 setback to Manhattanville and two RBI in the game one victory over the Bulldogs.
The softball team returns to action for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader on Saturday, April 8, against the Blue Jays of the University of Saint Joseph (CT). Game times are set for 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Shea Softball Complex.
Smith exploded for the Falcons in a 3-1 week, going 6-for-11 with five runs, three home runs, nine RBI, and four walks en route to a .545/.706/1.365 slash line for a 2.070 OPS. He had back-to-back two-hit performances against Rivier University, with two of the four hits coming as home runs, and tallied six of the nine RBI in the doubleheader split. He then capped the week going 2-for-4 with three runs scored, one home run, three RBI, and a walk in the Facons' doubleheader sweep against Sage.
The baseball team is back in action on Wednesday, April 5th, when the Falcons host the Pilgrims of New England College for a non-conference doubleheader at Rochford Field. Game times are set for 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
