Espada and Savinelli Earn Falcons of the Week Honor

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — In this week's "Taking Flight" Players of the Week, Albertus Magnus College baseball shortstop Adriel Espada (Bridgeport, Conn.) and softball's Amanda Savinelli (New Haven, Conn.) dominated on the diamond for the Falcons.

Espada posted a .500 batting average across three games for Albertus Magnus and recorded hits in two-straight matchups, including going 6-for-6 with four runs and five RBIs in the explosive 23-11 triumph over Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent New England College. The junior also blasted two doubles and stole a pair of bases with a .467 on-base percentage and .643 slugging percentage. Espada collected three putouts and nine assists at shortstop for the Falcons.

In six games for Albertus, Savinelli went 3-for-8 at the plate with an on-base and slugging percentage of .375 with five runs batted in and a run. On the hump for the Falcons, the right-hander pitched 11.1 innings of work with consecutive scoreless victories over league foes Dean College and Regis College (Mass.). The junior struck out 12 batters, including a pair of back-to-back contests against the Pride and Wesleyan University (Conn.) with 5 Ks to close out the week 2-1. In the first game against the Bulldogs, Savinelli went 2-3 at the plate, scored a run and drove in a trio of Falcons to open GNAC play with a 4-0 win.
