Former Falcon Civitello To Be Inducted Into Southern Connecticut Diamond Club Hall of Fame

HAMDEN, Conn. – Former Albertus Magnus College baseball standout Pete Civitello '99 will be inducted into the Southern Connecticut Diamond Club Hall of Fame on October 23.

An All-GNAC performer during his time with the Falcons, Civitello's 13 starts in 1999 remains an Albertus single-season record, while his seven wins that season are second-best in Falcons history. Civitello also fanned 72 in that 1999 campaign, which ranks third-best in a season all-time. He was an integral member of the 1999 team that was the first in program history to win 20 games in a season.

Since his graduation from Albertus, Civitello has moved onto a decorated coaching career in both baseball and basketball at a variety of levels. He also has pursued a career in secondary school administration and presently works for the Meriden Public Schools.

On the baseball front, he has coached several age groups in the area for more than 20 years. Civitello is also the co-owner of the Northeast Clutch travel program. He also enjoyed tremendous success over a decade as the head baseball coach at Guilford High School. In 2007, he guided GHS to the Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC) Hammonasset Division Championship, the SCC Tournament crown, and the CIAC Class L state title. Guilford achieved a final state ranking of No. 2. GHS repeated as division champion in 2008 and was ranked No. 7 in the state.

Civitello also served as head boys' basketball coach at North Haven High for seven seasons, where he led the team to the 2010 Southern Connecticut Conference Tournament title.

Also being honored by the SCDC this year are former Notre Dame High School and Wesleyan University standout Mark Consorte (Notre Dame High School-West Haven '88), two-time Derby High School all-stater Joe Lizza (Derby High School '95), former New York Mets draftee Michael Moras (Amity Regional High School '04), longtime Southern Connecticut State University Head Coach Tim Shea (Notre Dame High School-West Haven '82), and former Quinnipiac College slugger Vincent Siena Jr. (West Haven High School '82). Frank Pallone of Shelton will be presented the Andrew Gassira Memorial Umpire Award, and Matthew F. Mentone of Durham is the winner of the Tony Mentone Memorial Distinguished Service Award.
