The New Haven Register featured the Athletes of the Year from local colleges and universities in the New Haven area.  Among the group listed were Albertus Magnus College standouts Stephen Zapata and Lianna Carrero, both of Hamden, Conn.

The New Haven Register article can be found here.

This year’s Male Athlete of the Year award for Albertus Magnus was given to our third-ever All-American in Zapata as he achieved that prestigious recognition in the fall of 2012.  After leading the Nation in assists in 2011, Zapata put together an outstanding senior season as he led the Falcons with 13 goals and 12 assists.

He earned All-New England honors and capped off his four-year career at Albertus by being named to the GNAC All-Conference First Team for the third-straight year.

As a junior, Carrero was named Albertus' first-ever Academic All-America recipient en route to being named the Falcons' Female Athlete of the Year.

She has led her team in scoring all three years of her career and was named to the GNAC All-Conference First Team this season after averaging 20.1 points per game and shooting a team-best 42-percent from behind the arc. She scored her 1,000th career point at the Brooklyn Net’s Barclay Center on January 5th.
