Falcons End Season with Split Over Western Connecticut State

Danbury, CT - The Albertus Magnus College Baseball team concluded their 2011 season with a split against host Western Connecticut State University on Monday afternoon.  The first game saw the young Falcons make crucial mistakes that led to a 7-4 defeat.  The second game featured the Falcons winning a 5-4 decision after taking a 5-1 lead early.

Albertus finished the 2011 season on a high note with senior tri-captain Robert Bengivengo (Oxford, CT/Seymour) earning his 6th save of the season as the Falcons earned the 5-4 victory to finish the season 12-20, 8-6 GNAC.

The 2011 season saw a return to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoffs and featured a young team that had 15 players that were either freshman or sophomores.  Albertus will graduate two seniors in shortstop/closer Robert Bengivengo and senior reliever Adam Platner (Northford, CT/North Branford).  Fellow senior outfielder Kyle Calechman (North Haven, CT/North Haven) received his medical redshirt following a broken foot and will be returning next season.  "The future is very bright for the Falcons as we expect to be contending for a GNAC title in 2012," stated Head Coach Brian Leighton.  Of the 20 losses this season, Albertus was either tied or winning in the last two innings of 15 of those games.  The 2012 season looks to be a successful one for the Falcons.
