A four-run first inning lifted the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks to a 5-3 (7 innings) victory over the Albertus Magnus baseball team in game one of the Tuesday afternoon non-conference double header. The Falcons rallied in the sixth by scoring two runs but the Seahawks were able to withstand the comeback and took the eventual two-run victory.

The Seahawks (10-4) tallied the four runs on six hits in the opening frame before adding their fifth run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth inning.

After scoring their first run in the first inning, Albertus (0-3) added two more in the sixth as Robert Gambardella (North Haven, Conn.) recorded an RBI double, his second of the season, before Pete Haggerty (South Windsor, Conn.) plated another Albertus run on an infield single.

The Falcons recorded six hits in the seven-inning contest as the Seahawks tallied 11.

Brian Levchuk (Branford, Conn.) started on the hill for the Falcons as he made his second appearance in 2012. Levchuk gave up four runs on six hits in the first inning as the Seahawks took a 4-1 lead after one complete frame. Levchuk (0-1) went 3.1 innings as he allowed eight hits, five earned runs and five walks.

Freshman Nick Russo (Stamford, Conn.) came out of the bullpen and threw one inning as he allowed one hit and two walks, while striking out two. Matt Caputo (East Haven, Conn.) made his first 2012 appearance on the hill for the Falcons as he threw 1.2 innings of work and struck out a batter and allowed two hits as the Falcons were solid out of the bullpen.

Albertus took an early lead in the first inning as Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) doubled with one out to mark the Falcons' first hit of the ballgame and the sophomore's first double of the season. Malcolm Mendez (New York, N.Y.), who finished Monday's game with two hits and two RBI for the Falcons, continued where he left off and recorded an RBI single up the middle to score Sokolis from second to give Albertus an early advantage. St. Mary's answered in the bottom of the inning, putting up four runs on the scoreboard.

In the sixth, redshirt-senior Kyle Calechman (North Haven, Conn.) walked to lead off the frame then scored on Gambardella's double. After Andre Eason (Waterbury, Conn.) reached base on a fielder's choice, he was able to score as Haggerty recorded the first hit of his career.

St. Mary's Carlos Cruz (1-0) earned the win for the Seahawks as he went six innings and allowed six hits and three runs.

The Falcons' second game of their double-header begins at 2:30 p.m. in St. Mary's City.
