The Albertus Magnus baseball team fell to Saint Joseph's College of Maine 4-3 in game one of its Saturday afternoon double-header in Standish, Maine. Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) led the Falcons with a 3-for-4 performance, while both Robert Gambardella (North Haven, Conn.) and Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) contributed with two hits and an RBI apiece.

Albertus (2-9, 0-1 GNAC) opened the contest with a two-run first inning led by RBI singles from Gambardella and Pellegrino. Andre Eason (Waterbury, Conn.) led off the game with an infield single before moving to second on a base hit by Sokolis. Both Falcons later scored to give Albertus a 2-0 advantage.

Saint Joseph's tied the game at two in the bottom of the frame using three hits, including a double by Dan Achorn.

The Monks tallied their third run of the contest in the bottom of the second inning then took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth as Nic Lops registered an RBI single to lead the way.

The Falcons rallied in the seventh led by back-to-back singles from Eason and Sokolis once again. An RBI single by senior Malcolm Mendez (New York, N.Y.) cut the Monks' lead to one at 4-3 but two strikeouts thrown by Alex Valenti closed the door on Albertus' come back and secured the Monks' first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory of the season.

Eason finished the game 2-for-4 with one run scored, while Matthew Finkenzeller (Wolcott, Conn.) threw the complete game (six innings), while allowing nine hits and four runs in the loss. He also struck out three on the afternoon.

Lincoln Sanborn threw six innings for the Monks, while he allowed eight hits and two runs, while striking out six. Valenti closed out the game for the Monks for the save.
