The Albertus Magnus baseball team used a five-run sixth inning with help from seven hits in the frame to defeat Rivier College 5-0 in game one of the Sunday afternoon double-header. With the win, the Falcons improve to 3-10 on the year and 1-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a base hit for the Falcons before moving to second on a single to left by Kyle Calechman (North Haven, Conn.). A single up the middle from Malcolm Mendez (New York, N.Y.) scored the first run of the ballgame before an RBI double to right field by Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Pete Haggerty (South Windsor, Conn.) followed with a hit of his own as a shot up the middle plated two more Falcons to extend Albertus' lead to 4-0. Andre Eason (Waterbury, Conn.) capped the inning with an RBI single to second as he beat out the play at first, while Haggerty scored the Falcons' fifth run of the ballgame.

Rivier threatened in only one inning as their lead-off batter reached base with no outs in the sixth and moved to second on a wild pitch. The Falcons' Jim Stanley (North Haven, Conn.) was able to get out of the jam as he retired three-straight batters with two strikeouts and a fly out to right field.

Stanley threw a solid ballgame in just his second start of the season as he improved to 2-0 on the year from the hill. The junior struck out seven and walked one in seven shutout innings of work.

The Falcons were led by Calechman and Haggerty as both recorded two hits in the contest. Both Falcons added a stolen base as well as an RBI as Haggerty finished with two. Eight of the Falcons' nine starters registered at least one hit in today's ballgame.
