Baseball Falls to Trinity 16-4

The Albertus Magnus baseball team fell to Trinity 16-4 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Falcons fall to 4-11 on the year, while Trinity, the No. 4 team in New England, improves to 15-5 overall.

Trinity took a 5-3 lead after three innings before posting a seven-run fourth to extend its lead to 12-3.

Albertus took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning led by a three-run home run by Malcolm Mendez (New York, N.Y.). Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) recorded the Falcons' first hit of the ballgame as he singled with one out on the board. After Kyle Calechman (North Haven, Conn.) walked to put runners on first and second, Mendez connected on his third home run of the season to give the Falcons their only lead of the contest.

In the seventh inning, Albertus scored its fourth run of the afternoon to cut the Trinity lead to 13-4. The Falcons used two hits and a walk to plate their fourth run of the game.

Mike Barillaro (Meriden, Conn.) earned the start for the Falcons and went two innings, while allowing four hits and two runs. Matthew Finkenzeller (Wolcott, Conn.) threw 1.1 innings as he gave up seven hits and eight runs in the loss. He falls to 0-2 on the year with the decision.

Trinity scored 16 runs on 20 hits, while the Falcons tallied just six hits in the contest.

The Falcons return to action on Thursday when they host Western Connecticut State University in a non-conference double-header at Quigley Stadium in West Haven, Conn.
