Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles to lead the Albertus Magnus baseball team to a 9-3 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Norwich on Wednesday afternoon.

Dornfried led the Falcons' charge as the team finished the contest with nine runs on 12 hits. The win improved the Falcons' overall record to 6-16, while Norwich fell to 4-22 with the GNAC loss.

After Norwich opened the game in the first inning with a 1-0 advantage, Albertus scored three runs in the second and one in the third to take a 4-2 lead after three complete frames. Dornfried recorded an RBI double down the right field line to score Robert Gambardella (North Haven, Conn.) from second after the junior singled to left then stole second to get into scoring position. Dornfried later scored on a passed ball before Jon Almonte (New York, N.Y.) scored on a called balk.

The Falcons' extended their lead to 7-2 in the fifth inning as they tallied three runs on four hits and a Norwich error. Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.), who finished the contest 2-for-4 with two RBI, singled to center to score Kyle Calechman (North Haven, Conn.) from third. Dornfried connected for his second double of the game in the frame as he plated two more Falcons, extending their lead to five runs.

Norwich scored its third run of the contest as Dustin Shimkus homered to left off Falcon starter Brian Levchuk (Branford, Conn.). Albertus bounced back, adding two runs in the top of the sixth as both Calechman and Pellegrino recorded RBIs.

Levchuk went 6.1 innings for the Falcons as he evened his record out to 3-3 on the year with the victory. The freshman gave up eight hits, including the solo home run, as well as three runs. He also struck out eight batters on the night.
