Falcons Down Emerson 11-3

The Falcons recorded 11 runs on 12 hits as the Albertus Magnus baseball team downed Emerson 11-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons scored four runs in the first inning then six in the sixth to cruise to the league victory.

Matthew Finkenzeller (Wolcott, Conn.) earned his first victory of the season with a seven hit, three-run outing. He threw the complete game for the Falcons as they picked up their ninth win of the season moving to 9-17 on the year. With the win, the Falcons improved to 5-6 in GNAC play as well. The loss moved Emerson to 7-22 on the year and 2-7 in league play.

Fanol Prevalla (Berlin, Conn.) led off the bottom of the first inning with a base hit then moved to second on a Kyle Calechman (North Haven, Conn.) single to left. Malcolm Mendez (New York, N.Y.) picked up the Falcons' third single in the frame as he recorded an RBI hit to right field to score Prevalla from second, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

A wild pitch then a walk to Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) loaded the bases for the Falcons with one out. Robert Gambardella (North Haven, Conn.) recorded his ninth RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly to left before an RBI single up the middle from Zak Soloklis (Meriden, Conn.) plated another run.  The Falcons took a 4-0 lead thanks to an RBI single from Jon Almonte (New York, N.Y.) as Pellegrino scored from second.

Ben Quick didn't make it out of the first inning as he left the game after giving up four runs on five hits in 2/3 of an inning. Emerson cut the Falcons' lead to 5-3 heading into the fifth inning before the Falcons scored six runs on five hits in the frame to take a commanding 11-3 lead.

Emerson used six pitchers in today's contest as Quick took the loss to fall to 0-6 on the year. Quick allowed four runs on five hits in his fifth start of the season.

Prevalla finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Mendez went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Falcons. Sokolis added two hits as well for Albertus in the victory.
