Kyle Calechman (North Haven, Conn.) scored the lone run of the ballgame in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Albertus Magnus baseball team blanked Purchase 1-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday night.

With the win, the Falcons improved to 11-17 on the year as they picked up their fourth straight-victory and their sixth in the last seven contests.

Daniel Kmiechick (Barnegat, N.J.) made his fifth start for the Falcons on the hill as he went eight innings to improve to 2-3 on the year. Kmiechick allowed six hits in his first combined shutout of the season. Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) closed out the game as he earned his second save on the year. Dornfried took the hill with a man on first and retired the next three batters to end the game and secure the 1-0 victory.

After six scoreless innings, Calechman led off the seventh with his third triple of the season before scoring the eventual game-winning run on a wild pitch thrown over the head of catcher, Frank Fiumara.

On the wild pitch, Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) earned his 12th walk of the year to give the Falcons runners on first and second with no outs. The Panthers were able to retire three-straight Falcons to keep their deficit at one heading into the eighth inning.

The Panthers only scoring threat came in the sixth inning as Michael Sarni advanced to second with two outs in the top of the frame due to an infield error by the Falcons. On an infield base hit by Jay Ruiz, Sarni was thrown out at home as he tried to score on the play from second.

Matt Paz started on the hill for Purchase (11-21) and had a solid outing despite the one-run loss. Paz (4-3) went seven innings and gave up just three hits but his lone wild pitch of the night allowed the Falcons to score. Paz struck out five on the night as well.

Along with Calechman, Robert Gambardella (North Haven, Conn.) and Malcolm Mendez (New York, N.Y.) recorded hits in the contest as Mendez extended his current hitting streak to five games.

Albertus will return to action on Thursday as the Falcons host Lesley in a non-conference double-header beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Quigley Stadium.
