Baseball Drops 8-4 Decision to Lesley

Lesley's Jeff Landry threw a complete game two-hitter as the Lynx defeated the Albertus Magnus baseball team 8-4 in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon. With the loss, the Falcons move to 11-18 on the year.

Robert Gambardella (North Haven, Conn.) registered one of the Falcons' two hits in the contest as he lined a double down the left field line in the seventh inning. Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) tallied the other Falcon hit, an RBI single to right field that scored Fanol Prevalla (Berlin, Conn.) from second.

Freshman Nick Russo (Stamford, Conn.) struck out four in his first start of the season for the Falcons. With the loss, he drops to 0-2 on the year. Russo went 2.1 innings, while allowing four runs on four hits and three walks.

Landry threw all seven innings for the Lynx, while allowing two earned runs on two hits. He struck out one batter and walked three on the afternoon.

In the top of the second, the Lynx threated with the bases loaded and two outs. After an infield throwing error and a base hit put runners on first and second, a walk loaded the bases for Lesley's Robert Parson. Parson got ahead in the count 3-0 before three-straight pitches were called strikes as Parson struck out looking, leaving three runners stranded.

Lesley's John Gosnell led off the third with a double to left center before scoring the game's first run on a throwing error. On the throwing error, Agib Shah made it to first before advancing to second on a pitch in the dirt. With two runners in scoring position, Andrew Colon recorded a two-run double to left center as the Lynx took a 3-0 lead.

Back-to-back walks loaded the bases with one out before a sacrifice fly plated Lesley's fourth run of the inning.

In the fourth, the Falcons got on the board as Kyle Calechman (North Haven, Conn.) walked for the 18th time of the season before stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error. He later scored his team-leading 32nd run of the season on a sacrifice fly by Malcolm Mendez (New York, N.Y.).

Lesley added one run in the fifth and three in the seventh en route to the four-run victory.

The Falcons put together a late rally in the bottom of the seventh as Joseph Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) registered a lead-off walk. Martinez moved to third on a double by Gambardella before scoring on a balk. Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) followed with his second sacrifice fly of the season to score Gambardella from third.

Lesley's Landry was able to record the final two outs of the game to improve his record on the year to 2-5 from the hill. The Falcons registered seven errors in the contest along with just two hits.
