In the Falcons' first game of the day, the Albertus Magnus baseball team dropped a 9-8 decision to St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon.

Albertus (0-2) scored first as Jack Pritchard (Orange, Conn.) connected on an RBI single to score Justin Poirier (Meriden, Conn.) from third, giving the Falcons a 1-0 early advantage. St. Joseph's took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on three hits, including a two-RBI double by Thomas McKenna.

Albertus took over the lead in the top of the fifth as two walks and a base hit loaded the bases before Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) walked in his first RBI of the season. Later in the inning, Pritchard hit a sacrifice fly to break the tie and give the Falcons a 3-2 edge.

In the bottom of the frame, the Bears scored five runs on six hits, including an RBI triple by Kevin Diaz.

Heading into the sixth inning, the Falcons trailed 7-3 before scoring two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to take an 8-7 lead. A throwing error in the seventh plated two Falcons as Albertus tied the game and took the lead.

For the second-straight day, the Falcons went into the bottom of the ninth with a lead.  An RBI double by Chris Cutrone tied the contest at eight before the Falcons' Brian Levchuk (Branford, Conn.) walked in the winning run to give the Bears a 9-8 win.

Levchuk took the loss to fall to 0-1 on the year.  Ryan Fowler (Cheshire, Conn.) started for the Falcons and went 4.2 innings, while allowing seven hits and four earned runs. In his collegiate debut the freshman struck out four batters.

Poirier finished with a 2-for-5 performance with two runs scored.  Pritchard added a hit and two RBI, while Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) finished 2-for-2 with one run scored.

Matt Brigando earned the win for the Bears to improve to 1-0 on the year.
