Walk-Off Hit Lifts Anna Maria over Falcons 12-11

An RBI single by Justin Hyland in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Anna Maria College AMCats a 12-11 walk-off victory over the Albertus Magnus baseball team on Sunday afternoon.  The win marked the second-straight walk-off victory for the AMCats over the Falcons.

The two teams combined for 30 hits in the contest as both teams scored in the first five innings of the ballgame.

After Albertus tied the game at 11 with two runs in the top of the seventh inning, Anna Maria's Mike Guarrieri singled with one out before stealing second to get into scoring position. Justin Hyland came up big for the AMCats as he singled to right center, allowing Guarrieri to score the game-winning run.

The lead changed multiple times throughout today's contest. Anna Maria led 2-1 after one inning before Albertus took a 6-5 lead after three. Anna Maria used a four-run fourth inning to take a 9-8 lead before Albertus tied the contest at nine with a run in the fifth. After Arber Mehmedi (Naugatuck, Conn.) was hit by a pitch, freshman Jordan Kubilus (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded an RBI triple to plate Albertus' ninth run of the game.

Anna Maria answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take an 11-9 lead but Albertus once again used two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 11. Three-straight hits led off the seventh inning as the Falcons' leadoff batter Justin Poirier (Meriden, Conn.) tripled before Mehmedi walked to put runners on the corners. An RBI single by Kubilus plated the Falcons' 10th run of the contest before a sacrifice fly by Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) tied the game at 11 as Mehmedi scored from third.

Anna Maria's Hyland earned the win to move to 2-2 on the year as he went 3.0 innings, allowing four hits and three runs, while striking out three.

Freshman Ryan Fowler (Cheshire, Conn.) started for the Falcons and was pulled after two innings of work. Tyler Donnan (Meriden, Conn.) picked up the loss in the contest to fall to 1-2 on the year. Donnan faced three batters and allowed two hits and one run.

Kulibus finished the game with two hits and two RBI, while Sokolis went 4-for-4 with three RBI. Shane Osborn (Lake Worth, Fla.) and Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) both added two hits and two RBI apiece.
