Falcons Drop 3-1 Decision to Saint Joseph's Maine

The Albertus Magnus baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Saint Joseph's College on Monday night in game two of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader. With the win, the Monks improve to 20-9 on the year and 10-2 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 9-15 overall and 5-7 in the GNAC.

The Monks' Nick Whittaker struck out 10 in tonight's contest, including seven-straight batters in the fifth through seventh innings. With the win, he improved to 4-2 on the year as he allowed just two hits in the contest.

Saint Joseph's scored the first run of the contest in the top of the third as Taylor Reuillard scored on a passed ball. The Falcons answered with a run in the bottom of the frame as Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) recorded an RBI single to right center to score Justin Poirier (Meriden, Conn.) from second base.  Poirier walked to lead off the inning before moving to second on a groundout by freshman Arber Mehmedi (Naugatuck, Conn.).

Falcon starter Ryan Fowler (Cheshire, Conn.) threw four innings of work in the no decision.  He allowed four hits and two walks along with one run, which was unearned. Mike Hughes (Norwalk, Conn.) picked up the loss as he fell to 1-2 on the year after giving up one run on three hits in 1.1 innings.

Freshman Tyler Donnan (Meriden, Conn.) closed out the game for the Falcons as the Monks scored their insurance run in the top of the seventh on a fielding error by the Albertus infield.

Brandon Chase and Sam Butts both had two hits for the Monks, while Joe Coyne added an RBI.  Albertus was led by Dornfried, who registered both of the Falcons' hits in the ballgame.
