Leighton Earns 100th Win as Falcons Defeat Emerson 8-1

With an 8-1 win over Emerson College on Sunday afternoon, Albertus Magnus head coach Brian Leighton earned his 100th career victory at the helm of the Falcons' baseball program.

With the win, the Falcons improved to 11-15 on the year, while Leighton's overall coaching record moved to 100-179.

In the GNAC contest, Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) led the way for the Falcons with two doubles and three runs scored.  The sophomore doubled in the first inning before scoring on a triple by Shane Osborn (Fort Worth, Fla.).

Emerson tied the game at one in the bottom of the first inning. Albertus took a 2-1 advantage in the top of the fourth as Robert Gambardella (North Haven, Conn.) singled then scored on a Justin Poirier (Meriden, Conn.) double.

Albertus added three runs in the fifth inning thanks to a handful of hits, including a Jordan Kubilus (Cheshire, Conn.) RBI double. The Falcons scored three more runs in the seventh led by an RBI single by freshman Mike Anastasio (East Haven, Conn.).

Matthew Finkenzeller (Wolcott, Conn.) threw the complete game as he allowed eight hits and one earned run.  He walked one batter and struck out six batters.
