Baseball Ends Regular Season with 6-4 Loss to Suffolk

Suffolk's JC Collette registered a pinch-hit two-run single in the sixth inning to lift the Rams over the Albertus Magnus baseball team 6-4 in game number two of the Monday night Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader.

With the loss, the Falcons finish the 2013 regular season with a 12-17 overall record, while they earned a 7-9 GNAC record.

Albertus scored one run in the first inning thanks to a sacrifice fly by Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.). Suffolk tied the game with a run in the bottom of the frame before scoring three runs in the second to take a 4-1 lead.

Albertus tied the game at four with one run in the fourth and two in the sixth. After reaching base on an error, Justin Poirier (Meriden, Conn.) scored on an RBI single by Nick Sedia (Bronx, N.Y.).

In the sixth, Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) and Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) each recorded RBIs to tie the ballgame.

The Rams took the lead back in the sixth thanks to Collette's pinch hit single.

Senior Chris Campbell was solid for Suffolk as he started the game on the mound. Campbell struck out four in five innings of work before departing with the two run lead. Dan Shields picked up the win on the mound to move to 2-1 despite a blown save.

Sedia finished game two with a pair of his for Albertus including an RBI, while sophomore Shane Osborn (Lake Worth, Fla.) drew three walks in the game.

Albertus faces Lasell on Wednesday in the first round of the GNAC Tournament. That game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start time at Brandeis University.
