Lasell Tops Falcons 5-3 in GNAC Tournament

The Albertus Magnus baseball team fell to Lasell College 5-3 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday night in Waltham, Mass. The loss eliminates the Falcons from tournament action.

The Falcons (12-18) were led by Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) who finished the night 3-for-5 with an RBI, while Shane Osborn (Lake Worth, Fla.) added two hits and two RBI.

The Falcons got on the board first with a run in the opening inning. Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) singled to reach base with one out in the inning. After stealing second, Sokolis scored on an RBI single by Osborn.

Lasell scored three runs in the bottom of the frame led by a two-run single by Wes Hurty.

Albertus tied the ballgame in the top of the third inning as Osborn registered his second RBI single in the contest.  After a base hit by Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) and a walk by Sokolis, Pellegrino connected on a one-out RBI single.  Osborn followed with a base hit which scored Sokolis from third.

The eventual game-winning run was tallied in the bottom of the fifth when Billy Uberti recorded a sacrifice fly out to centerfield.  Lasell added an insurance run in the seventh thanks to a sacrifice bunt which scored Skylar Beckerman from third.

Mike Barillaro (Meriden, Conn.) took the loss for the Falcons as he gave up 10 hits and five earned runs. He also struck out five on the night in eight innings of work.  Barillaro fell to 1-4 on the year with the loss.

David Long earned the win for Lasell as he improved to an impressive 5-0 on the year.  Greg Sherman picked up his first save of the year. Long threw 5.2 innings of work and gave up three runs, three walks and eight hits, while he struck out six Falcons.
