#7 Salisbury Defeats Falcons 35-3 in Baseball

The Albertus Magnus baseball team fell to seventh-ranked Salisbury 35-3 in seven innings on Friday afternoon.

The nationally ranked Seagulls improved to 10-3 on the year with the win, while the Falcons fell to 2-5.

The Falcons' struck early with three runs in top of the first inning. Two singles and an error loaded the bases for the Falcons before Jack Pritchard (Orange, Conn.) connected on a bases-clearing double to give Albertus a 3-0 lead.

Salisbury answered in the bottom of the frame, loading the bases with its first-three batters. A wild pitch plated one run to cut the Falcons' lead to 3-1 before a single by Bobby Sanzone made the score 3-2.

An error and another wild pitch plated two more Seagulls as Salisbury took a quick 4-3 lead in the frame. The Seagulls added six more runs in the frame to take a 9-3 lead.  In the second, they added four more runs to take a 13-3 lead before a 17-run third inning.

Salisbury added one run in the fourth inning and then four in the fifth en route to the non-conference victory.

Four Falcons recorded one hit a piece, led by Pritchard with his multiple-RBI double.  Patrick Dornfried (Berlin, Conn.) and Zak Sokolis (Meriden, Conn.) each had a hit, while Sage Leonard (Northford, Conn.) was 1-for-1.

Salisbury put together a 26-hit outing led by a home run in a 2-for-2 effort and four RBI by Kyle Hayman.  Quinn Griffith added a 2-for-3 outing, while Austin Barefoot added two hits, three RBI, and three runs, including two doubles.

Johnny Schiotis went 3-for-4 for the Seagulls with two doubles, three runs and four RBI.

Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.) took the loss on the hill and allowed eight runs and seven hits.  The Falcons used six pitchers on the afternoon. 

Jeff Geary earned the win to improve to 1-0 on the year as he went 2.0 innings and struck out three batters.

Albertus will play Washington College in a double-header on Saturday beginning at noon.
