Falcons Lose to St. Joseph’s (ME) in GNAC Doubleheader

The Albertus Magnus baseball team fell to Saint Joseph's College of Maine in back-to-back games on Saturday afternoon in Standish, Maine.  The Monks won game one 11-0 before defeating the Falcons 12-0 in game two.

With the wins, the Monks improved to 15-7 on the year and 6-0 in league play, while Albertus fell to 10-11 overall and 3-5 in GNAC play.

GAME ONE – Saint Joseph's 11, Albertus Magnus 0

In the opener, the Monks scored five runs in the first inning thanks to a Nic Lops RBI single and two RBI for Dan Donovan.  After another run in the second inning, the Monks added five runs on six hits and one error in the bottom of the third inning.

Starting pitcher Lincoln Sanborn finished the day allowing four hits in the shutout.  He allowed one walk and struck out nine.

Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) took the loss after allowing all 11 runs (10 earned) off 11 hits in 2.1 innings. Scott Lusita (Bethel, Conn.) and Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.) combined to toss 3.2 innings of scoreless relief in the setback.


GAME TWO – Saint Joseph's 12, Albertus Magnus 0

After a close four innings of play, St. Joe's scored six runs in the fifth inning and five runs in the sixth to take a 12-0 lead.

With a 1-0 lead heading into the fifth, the Monks' tallied six runs off six hits to put the game out of reach.  In the sixth, Donovan guided the Monks to a five-run sixth inning with an RBI double.

Senior pitcher Joe Gruntkosky (Peabody, Mass.) tallied his second win of the season after striking out six batters and allowing five hits in six innings.

Starter Jordan Kubilus (Cheshire, Conn.), who yielded six runs off eight hits in four innings of work, took the loss for the Falcons.

Saint Joseph's improves to 16-1 all-time against Albertus and has now defeated the Falcons in 14-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2008 season.
