Baseball Weekly Preview: Mount St. Mary's, Norwich & Anna Maria

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College baseball team went 0-4 last week, dropping both ends of a non-conference doubleheader versus Mitchell at home before losing twice at Johnson & Wales to open league play on Sunday. Albertus Magnus enters the week with a 6-12 overall record and a 0-2 mark in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Earlier in the Week: The Falcons split a conference doubleheader with Lasell on Monday evening at Stein Diamond on the campus of Brandeis. Albertus Magnus took the opener, 9-8, and the Lasers scored a 6-0 victory in the nightcap.

This Week: Albertus Magnus hosts Mount St. Mary's in non-conference action at home before a weekend full of conference play. AMC travels to face Norwich on Saturday before hosting Anna Maria on Sunday at Rochford Field.

Earlier this Year Against the Knights: In windy, chilly conditions, the host Knights erased a late one-run deficit to earn their first home triumph of the year. Mount Saint Mary used a two-out rally in the home half of the eighth to take their first lead of the game en route to a 402 victory.

Last Spring Versus Norwich: The Falcons took both ends of GNAC doubleheader against the Cadets at Purchase College. AMC scored a 12-1 victory in the opener and topped Norwich, 2-1, in the nightcap. In game one, Jordan Kubilus had two hits and two RBIs, while Tyler Robertson produced a pair of hits of four RBIs. In game two, Justin Poirier had two hits and five Falcon pitchers kept the Cadets bat at bay.

Last Spring at Anna Maria: The Falcons and AMCATS split a conference doubleheader in Northborough, Massachusetts. Albertus Magnus rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh and staved off an AMCAT comeback in the bottom of the inning to claim their first GNAC win of the season. In game two, Anna Maria held the Falcons to just two hits en route to a 7-2 win.

Albertus Notes:
- Freshman outfielder Dean Gullo hit .375 to go along with a team-leading .500 on-base percentage in four starts for the Falcons last week. He smacked hits in three straight games to open the week and reached base safely in all four contests for Albertus Magnus.
- Senior catcher Mike Saia hit a team-best .364 last week for the Falcons. In four games, he racked up four hits, two RBIs, two walks and a .462 slugging percentage. Defensively, he amassed a .920 fielding in 25 total chances and threw out one runner attempting to steal.
- As a team, the Falcons are hitting .273 with 32 extra-base hits, 14 stolen bases and 89 runs scored. Gullo has a team-best .364 batting average while classmate Mike Browne and Poirier are both hitting .343. Poirier leads the squad in hits (24), doubles (6) and RBIs (18).
- Albertus Magnus has a 7.99 team ERA and a .926 fielding percentage. The Falcons have committed 47 errors in 20 games.
