Pepe, Baldwin Earn GNAC Weekly Baseball Accolades

WINTHROP, Mass. – For the first time of their careers, Michael Pepe (Cheshire, Conn.) and Tyler Baldwin (Cromwell, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College baseball team earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors. Pepe was named the GNAC Pitcher of the Week, while Baldwin snagged Rookie of the Week accolades, as announced by the conference office on May 3.

Pepe appeared in two games on the bump for the Falcons, posting a 0.00 ERA across 5.2 innings with three strikeouts. The highlight of the week for the Cheshire, Conn., native came against Johnson & Wales University (RI) on Saturday, when he made his first career start and picked up a victory. He threw 5.0 innings against the Wildcats, who are seeded second in the GNAC Tournament, and did not allow a hit through the first 4.1 frames.

Baldwin earned Rookie of the Week honors after posting stellar performances on the pitching mound and at the plate. The product of Cromwell, Conn., made two relief appearances on the mound and recorded a 2.70 ERA over 3.1 innings with two strikeouts. Baldwin posted a .400 batting average at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run scored and one stolen base.

The fourth-seeded Falcons begin the 2021 GNAC Tournament on Tuesday, May 4, with a single-elimination game against fifth-seeded Norwich University at Rochford Field. The nine-inning bout is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
