HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1

The Falcons got started early, putting two runners on in the first inning. Lewcyzk and Matt Warren (Wolcott, Conn.) hit back-to-back singles, before Monks' starter Samuel Jalbert slammed the door on the early surge with a strikeout and a caught stealing. Falcons' starter Baldwin kept the Monks off the board in the bottom half of the first, sandwiching a single around three groundouts.

The Falcons put a runner on in the second, as Yandy James (Paterson, N.J.) was hit by a pitch, but Jalbert worked around the baserunner with a groundout and a strikeout. Baldwin matched Jalbert with a scoreless second inning of his own, and the teams moved to the third inning, still deadlocked at 0-0.

The Monks broke through against Baldwin in the third inning, after holding the Falcons scoreless in the top half of the frame. Three singles scored a run for the Monks before Baldwin induced a flyout to center field from Jonathan Dube to end the inning.

Albertus' Sean Jefferson (West Haven, Conn.) reached on an error with two outs in the fourth but was caught stealing to end the inning. Baldwin held the hosts' in check in the bottom of the fourth, working around a lead-off single from Dawson Gundlah to keep the score at 1-0 Monks, heading into the top of the fifth inning.

James led off the fifth by reaching second on a pair of Monks' errors. Jalbert quickly retired the next two hitters, before Anthony Broadhurst (Stratford, Conn.) smacked a single to left field to plate James from second and tie the game at 1-all.

The Monks answered in the bottom half of the fifth, scoring two runs on three hits to take a 3-1 advantage into the sixth inning.

Lewczyk led off the sixth inning with a walk, before advancing to second on a groundout. With two outs, Monk's starter Jalbert balked, allowing Lewczyk to reach third. However, Jalbert was unfazed, retiring the final hitter via foul-out to preserve the 3-1 lead for the Monks.

Saint Joseph's threatened in the bottom half of the sixth inning, putting a runner on with one out. Baldwin worked around a stolen base with a pair of flyouts to strand the runner and send the teams into the top of the seventh, with the Falcons trailing 3-1.

With one out in the seventh, Shawn Smith (Shelton, Conn.) and Nick Ramos (Mineola, N.Y.) worked back-to-back walks to put two on for the Falcons. Monks' reliever Luke Stephens bore down and retired the final two hitters to give the Monks the 3-1 victory in game one.
