WINTHROP, Mass. – After going 4-2 last week with two league wins, the Albertus Magnus College baseball team saw both Nhasean Murphy (Manchester, Conn.) and Shawn Smith (Shelton, Conn.) collect Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors, as announced Monday afternoon. Murphy was named the league's Player of the Week, while Smith took home Rookie of the Week accolades.
Murphy posted a stellar week, going .500 at the plate (9-for-18) with a team-leading nine RBIs, six runs, three doubles, and two home runs. He finished with an outstanding slash line of .500/.550/1.000. The senior outfielder recorded four multi-hit games, including tallying two hits in both ends of Albertus' GNAC sweep of Colby-Sawyer College on Senior Day.
Smith continues to be an important part of the Falcons' lineup down the stretch, leading the team with a .533 batting average (8-for-15), seven runs, and three home runs. The rookie tallied a .533/.588/1.200 slash line with five RBIs and a double, and earned a win on the mound after a scoreless relief appearance against the Chargers. The highlight of his week came in AMC's game one victory over Purchase State on Monday when he tallied two homers on three hits with three runs and three RBIs.
The Albertus Magnus baseball team will welcome the Lions of Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday, April 27, for a home doubleheader. Game times are set for 4 and 6:30 PM on Rochford Field in Hamden, Conn.
